Polyester is a Bad Conductor of Electricity and hence produces High Static Charge which can bring discomfort. What should be used to prevent Static Charge?
Why Polyester develops Static Charge?
Fabrics that are not good conductor of Electricity and do not absorb moisture are prone to developing static electricity. This results in small Electric Shocks while wearing clothes. This experience could be aggravated during winter due to dry skin.
Cotton is a good Conductor of electricity and has an inherent anti Static property. However, fabrics such as Polyester, Silk, Wool, Acrylic do not absorb moisture and hence do not have anti static property.
Challenges During Processing of Polyester
During the Processing of Polyester and similar fabrics, Static Electric charge is generated due to rubbing between the belt and the fabric. This Static charge is the cause of many challenges in productivity and quality. Hence, it is always recommended to use an Anti Static Agent for processing of Polyester fabric / yarn or similar fibres.
Starco Arochem Pvt. Ltd. is into the manufacturing of Textile Auxiliaries such as Anti Static Agent in the name of Starcodye AS 1015. This product has been well received and provides the required Anti Static Effect. Dosage of 100 gpl of this product results in an Electrical Resistivity of 2 x 10^9 Ohm which is well below the Standard according to the Testing Method EM 1149-1.
