Selection of Desizing Agent will depend on the type of Environment of Textile Processing.
Desizing Agent is used for removing the size from the Cotton Fabric. Size needs to be removed from the Cotton Fabric before dyeing otherwise it will hamper the quality of dyeing leading to un-level dyeing or low quality dyeing.
Desizing Agent is used to remove size from different types of Cotton & its blends. Desizing Agent is usually based on Enzyme formulation with Alpha Amylaze as the key component.
In Industry, Desizing agent for Polyester & its blends is usually a blend of Emulsifiers & solvents. In this post, I will focus on Desizing Agent for Cotton and specifically for Rayon.
Rayon is a Fabric made from regenerated cellulose generally derived from wood pulp. Rayon is well known for its soft feel and light weight. Care must be taken while handling Rayon since it does not have the strength of Cotton. Hence, process designed to treat rayon should ensure these characteristics of Rayon are taken into consideration.
Cotton & its blends / types such as Rayon can be desized based on type of environment that the fabric is processed. If the Desizing of Fabric (Cotton / Blends / Rayon) is taking place in a Cold Environment (Temperature range from 50 – 80 C, then a Cold Water Desizing Agent should be used. If the Desizing of Fabric (Cotton / Blends / Rayon) is taking place in a Hot Environment (Temperature range from 80 – 110 C, then a Hot Water Desizing Agent should be used.
Areas such as Pali, Balotra, Jodhpur in Rajasthan & Jetpur in Gujarat are famous for Cold Desizing where along with Jiggers even Kundi’s (Earthen compartments) are used to do cold desize. Hot Desize is a standard process and used elsewhere in India.
